Why is signage so important for my business?

Signage is the best investment a business can have because it provides 24/7 permanent advertising. It is also the best return on your marketing dollars for branding and building your company image. And, of course, it helps current and prospective customers find the business. Most important, the sign portrays the positive image you want your company to have. The first impression is the most important.

What are the elements of a good sign?

Good signage starts with a good design from an experienced designer then it is built from quality materials and installed with expertise when it is promised. The size should be the maximum the code allows. Unfortunately, a non-experienced person would not know at first glance if a sign is made from inferior materials. For example, Security Signs uses aluminum in all our cabinets. Other companies will tell you they use steel or sheet metal because of strength. They use it because it is cheaper. It is also heavier, and it rusts over time. Our neon is brighter, our cabinets have uniform illumination, and our vinyl is a brand name. All of these elements will help keep your sign looking new and illuminated for years. What you might save on up front dollars with a cheap sign, you will lose when you have to try to get the sign company to come back and repair it. A rusted, dirty, or half-illuminated sign is a poor reflection on your business. A sign from Security Signs will pay for itself over time.

What should I look for in a sign company?

You should know how long it has been in business and ask for references. Ask what materials they use and how long their warranty is for. (Security Signs provides a one-year warranty.) Look at their trucks – are they clean? (Our trucks are clean and safe.) The project manager should be a professional and experienced. Look for designs that have all the elements of the sign spelled out, so you know what you are getting. At Security Signs we believe the first impression is the most important for your business, and we also ‘practice what we preach.’ You want experience, professionalism, and fair pricing!

How do I compare prices?

This is tricky in the sign business. If you are getting several quotes, you must be sure you are comparing ‘apples and apples.’ Some sign companies will give you a lesser quote but you might be getting a smaller sign. Other sign companies will have add-on costs once you have agreed on an initial price. Ask about a warranty, and get it in writing. Cheapest in the short run isn’t always cheapest in the long run when buying signs. You can spend more on service, and you may end up with a sign company that doesn’t deliver what you wanted when you wanted it at the price you thought you were paying. Security Signs’ reputation and large following of repeat customers tells you something about how we do business.
